Yes, of course because quality was of paramount importance to the men who founded Volvo! This basic concept, which was formulated back in 1926, still applies to Volvo’s way of making cars today.

Now, if you own one of these great cars you might be worrying about your Volvo breaking down suddenly, get you stranded and require the aid of a mechanic of some sort. Well, don’t fret! Your Volvo Car can now be easily fixed with the aid of GT Imports Automotive Repair.

GT Imports Automotive Repair got tons of services to offer for your Volvo car.

Volvo Tune-ups and Oil Changes

Tuning up your Volvo includes replacement of certain parts at recommended intervals or if they are already showing excessive wear and tear. Most vehicles today especially Volvos need a tune up every 35,000 to 65,000 miles depending on driving conditions. Most of these vehicles have ignition systems and a throttle bore. These essential parts ignite the fuel air mixture inside the combustion chamber. So, when an ignition system fails, it can cause a variety of engine problems such as stalling, rough engine under power, service engine light and worst is complete engine shut down. This is why regular tune up is needed. We at GT Imports Automotive Repair ensure your vehicle’s engine and fuel system clean and guarantee the proper operation of your vehicle.

Determining which tune up parts are needed to be replaced is the very first in our to-do-list of tuning up your Volvo. Tune-up parts include basic ignition parts such as the spark plugs, which should be removed every 30, 000 miles; and the distributor cap and rotor, which should be change when they are seen with excessive wear. Furthermore, changing filters regularly has more to do with your Volvo’s longevity than any other single factor.

Aside from system tune ups, fluids are also an important part of your Volvo car. It is important to make sure that all the fluids are up to the top line and that the oil is lubricating the car system properly. Take care of the radiator coolant, the brake fluid, the oil levels, the windshield washer fluid, your power steering fluid, your Hydraulic Clutch fluid, and your Automatic Transmission fluid. The last three may not apply to most cars, but for those who do have it, it is important to maintain them properly.

Volvo Brake System Repair

Brake repairs are critical, of course! Your brakes keep you and your family safe. Brake parts like brake rotors for your Volvo car, unlike any domestic, are built with minimal thicknesses to save weight. This means they can’t just be “turned” instead they must be replaced.

Brake rotors for Volvo cars are susceptible to warping from heat. Actually, overheated brakes are the second most common cause of failure. Brakes’ condition should be visually inspected at least every six months.

Brake repairs for your Volvo car includes checking rotors (discs), brake pads, brake drums, brake shoes. Moreover, calipers, cylinders, hoses and fittings must be check for any hydraulic leakage.

The sound of your brakes also tells its condition. Most cars have a slight brushing sound from the pads as it lightly touches the rotors. This is perfectly normal but squeaking, rhythmic noises and constant brake noises are something you should not overlook.

Volvo Cooling System Service & Repair

The cooling system of Volvo cars, like any other car, performs a critical function. It maintains proper engine temperature and prevents it from overheating. Basically, it circulates coolant through the engine to pick up heat then, pass it through a Volvo radiator to cool it with air. The coolant then passes through a thermostat valve to control the flow and possibly, over a temperature sensor that controls external air cooling fans.

Cooling system repairs for your Volvo car typically includes replacement of the cooling system parts which include water pump, thermostat, radiator, cooling fan, drive belts or hoses among others. Keep your entire vehicle properly fixed because of the effect timing, idle speed, exhaust and other systems have on your engine’s temperature. Your Volvo’s cooling system is intended to function along with all other systems operating properly. It certainly cannot make up for a poorly operating or overheating engine condition.

Volvo Engine Performance: Diagnosis & Repair

Oil pressure light flickering? Engine knock? Both? Major repair problem or minor annoyance? Either way, you should always quickly investigate the source before it becomes an even bigger problem.

Oil pressure – or more precisely the lack of it – in certain parts of your Volvo’s engine can become a major repair nightmare. All engines lose a certain amount of oil pressure over time as normal wear increases bearing clearances. But unusually low oil pressure in an engine, regardless of mileage, is often an indication that something is seriously wrong and requires immediate repairs.

That “tappet” noise may be only one sticking lifter but it may also indicate an oil flow problem that will eventually cause damage to at least one valve.

A flickering oil light is more difficult to troubleshoot if your engine is not obviously in need of major repair work.

Modern engines with hydraulic lifters, tight tolerance bearings and miniature oil filters require conscientious monitoring of oil pressure.

The following diagnostic tips (excerpted from “Troubleshooting Low Oil Pressure”, Underhood Service, 10/97) will help you determine whether you have a major repair problem or just a minor annoyance.

Volvo Computer Diagnostics

Computerized engine control systems have a certain amount of built-in self-diagnostic capability to detect problems that affect engine performance and emissions. The same is true for the antilock brake system and other onboard systems that are computer controlled.

When a problem is detected, the computer will store a diagnostic trouble code in its memory and illuminate the “Check Engine” light. On some vehicles, the computer can be put into a special diagnostic mode by grounding certain terminals on a diagnostic connector. This will cause the Check Engine or other lights to flash out the fault code. On many vehicles, though, a scan tool must be plugged into the computer system to access and read the codes.

GT Imports Automotive Repair has the latest technology, just like the dealer! We now have the iVadis hardware, software and the ongoing subscription needed to work on 1999 and newer Volvo models.

Volvo Suspension & Steering Repair

Your car’s suspension system is an intricate network of cooperating components designed to give you a smooth, even, stable ride. Since the suspension is ground zero when it comes to road abuse, the parts wear out, and even break. If your car doesn’t seem to ride like it used to, you may have a problem down below.

Suspension and system repair on your Volvo car may be a daunting task but GT Imports Automotive Repair will diagnose steering or suspension problems for you and attack it systematically.

Volvo Clutches & Transmissions

When a clutch is working smoothly, a manual transmission is like an extension of your right arm. You have complete control over the gears. You decide when to shift and which gears to use. There’s no intervention by a computer and no isolation from the drivetrain. You’re in control and always aware of which gear you’re in.

Many people who buy sporty cars, performance cars and even trucks want the control that a manual transmission provides. A stick shift puts the fun back into driving, at least on the open road. But around town in heavy stop-and-go traffic, having to constantly ride the clutch and shift gears can be a real pain and make you wish you’d opted for an automatic – especially if the clutch is acting up.

Clutch problems can occur at almost any mileage and for a wide variety of reasons. When the clutch pedal is released and the clutch disc starts to rub against the flywheel and pressure plate, it generates friction and heat. This helps absorb the shock loading that would otherwise jolt the drivetrain every time the transmission was put into gear or shifted. A little slippage under these conditions is a good thing because it helps dampen loads that might otherwise damage gears, U-joints and CV joints.

Many clutch discs have a spring-loaded center hub for this very purpose. The springs provide a little “give” when the clutch is engaged, and also help dampen harmonics and subtle variations in the engine’s power output.

Volvo Smog Test

Smog is a visible mixture of air pollutants, including those formed by burning fuel. It is a serious health hazard to all people. It causes asthma attacks, headaches, burning eyes, an itchy throat, and a cough. A lot of state today requires the owners of most cars to adhere to strict emissions regulations in order to register them. So, everytime you need to renew your Volvo car registration you must obtain a “smog certificate”. This is a print out of your emissions test or smog test results. GT imports and Repair is a Certified Smog Inspector and can provide you this service with a guarantee that you and your car will pass the test.
